Headaches

In addition to general and restorative dentistry, John Muirhead has a particular interest in occlusion (the way the teeth meet when the jaws are closed). This allows him to treat some types of headache, migraine and neck pains, which can be linked to jaw alignment and the “bite”. Whether you have had these symptoms for a few months or for years, please mention it to us, as we may be able to help.

cosmeticYou may have had success with a soft gumshield or “night guard”, but this is not a reliable treatment, may be unsuccessful and can even make matters worse.

Our night guard or “splint” is a precision dental appliance which is custom made to fit the teeth on either upper or lower jaw. Worn overnight, it will reduce the tendency to grind, protect teeth from wear and reduce muscle spasm, which can be the cause of neck pain, shoulder pain and headaches.

People are often amazed that teeth can have such an impact. In fact, the most extreme symptoms are usually the most successfully treated.

Here are just a couple of comments from satisfied customers:

“My neck pain was so bad… the splint paid for itself the first night!”

“I’ve been taking tablets for 30 years. I can’t believe a splint has stopped my migraines”
